About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household brand around the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads of previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a new album and change their name an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
